If you are not qualified to dive, or even if you are not a particularly strong swimmer, you don’t have to miss out on the incredible beauty of the coral reefs.

The water is so clear and the corals often so shallow that you don’t even need to get into the water at all to see the marine creatures below going about their daily business. Even from above the surface while sat safe and dry on a boat you get to experience first-hand the magical marine life below.

Of course, it would be better experienced close up and with life-jackets often being provided to snorkelers, you don’t need to exert any effort whatsoever. Just float along the surface and look down using your mask and snorkel and you will witness a magical underwater world that wouldn’t look out of place in a book of fantasy. From the very small to the quite large and adorned in a fabulous array of colours you will be amazed at the variety of creatures that can be found. You will even get to see some animals that have made their way into the movies, such as the clown fish from the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ You will also find that some of these aquatic creatures are inquisitive and will approach you to check you out.

For the more adventurous among you, submerged corals and shipwrecks in the region allow you to explore even deeper below the surface. If you do not yet have the necessary diving certificates then courses from qualified diving instructors are available to help you gain the PADI certificates needed. Divers certified to explore the deeper realms beneath the ocean can be treated to sharing the water with the majestic Leopard Shark, striking Lion Fish and large Moray Eels.

If you are interested in taking advantage of the many snorkeling and diving opportunities in and around the Andaman sea, there are plenty of tour and dive operators to be found. From boat trips with the family to more serious expeditions with the professionals, there is a wealth of things to see beneath the surface of the Andaman.
