Rang Hill

One of the first things that many people notice about Phuket is that it is very hilly with the roads often having to ascend, or wind their way down, steep inclines. While this can make for some hair-raising journeys it also makes for some spectacular scenery with views that stretch as far as our eyes are able to see. With a taste for a little adventure and the willingness to go off the beaten track, visitors to Phuket Thailand will get to see parts of the island that few other people have had the fortune of witnessing.

Among the most famous and well visited of these stunning vistas is Rang Hill, which is found North West of Phuket City centre. Because of its close proximity to Phuket city, Rang hill is one of the easiest to access with two roads taking you all the way to the top. As you make the ascent to the top of Rang Hill you will pass both a Chinese Temple and a Thai temple. The Thai temple, Wat Khao Rang is home to a very large golden Buddha statue and if you would like to get a closer look at the temple and its statue, it is open to visitors from 8:00 AM every day. Amazingly the founder of the temple, Lung Pu Supa, still lives there even though he is a staggering 115 years old.

Once you reach the top of Rang Hill you will find a very spacious area with plenty of seats that would likely be a welcome sight to anybody that chose to walk to the top. The site is ideal for relaxing as it is far away from the noise of civilisation and on clear days you are able to look out onto some of the smaller islands of Phuket’s coast. Many visitors choose to make the most of the scenery by relaxing with their own food and drinks while they take in the stunning views from the hill. You will also have the option of eating from the three restaurants at the top of the hill, with each of them selling tasty meals at great prices.

By night, the quality of the view from Rang Hill does not fade away even though the sun is no longer illuminating the view. The views overlooking the Andaman make way and are replaced by the bright lights of the city below and for many people, a night on Rang Hill is one of the most beautiful and romantic places to be.

If you would like to visit Rang Hill, whether by day or by night, then there will be no shortage of taxis, tuk-tuks and motorbikes willing to take you. With some great wines and other drinks available from restaurants atop the hill it could be the ideal place to relax and spend some quality time with some quality company. Remember also to take your camera so you can capture some of the most spectacular scenery that the Pearl of the Andaman has to offer.
