When most people think of Phuket, they think of pristine sandy beaches, colourful coral reefs and glorious sunny weather. As a tropical country, Thailand is a haven to sun seekers from across the planet and Phuket’s beaches are often full with people that are looking to top up their tans.
Although Phuket’s weather is hot more or less all year round, there are seasonal variations that make it better to visit during some months than others. Although many sun seekers are happy to visit when the sun is at its hottest, for others the hottest Phuket weather is too much to handle. Likewise the sun is not always out in Phuket and although the weather may still be warm, cloudy and rainy days could mean that any plans for hitting the beach need to be cancelled.
Which time of year would be best for you to visit Phuket, however, is largely a matter of personal preference. While some people would rather stay clear when there is a high chance of rain, others would prefer the cooler weather, fewer crowds and lower prices. To stand a good chance of holidaying in Phuket when the weather is just right for you, you should try to go at the right time of year.
If you are a fan of hot weather then you should consider visiting between April and May when the temperature can soar to the mid-30s and beyond. With the humidity very high many will find this time of year quite uncomfortable at times, although the occasional thunderstorm will help to freshen up the atmosphere a little, albeit temporarily. Because a lot of tourists will be deterred by the very high temperatures and humidity prices have not reached their peak and rooms are empty, meaning you can find some good deals on Phuket accommodation. From June to August temperatures will begin to get more comfortable, yet the occasional showers still mean that the hordes of visitors are not here yet. If you don’t mind losing the occasional day because of rain then this could be the ideal time for you to visit.
It is during September and October that the heavens open up and everything gets very wet. Regular downpours make this time of year the least popular time to visit although some do still arrive to take advantage of the lower prices and the cooler weather. Even at this time of year the sun does make an occasional appearance so you still have a good chance of going back home with a great tan.
From December through to March is when visitors come in numbers and hotel occupancy reaches near maximum levels. You may find at times it is very difficult to get a hotel room during this period so it is advisable to book well in advance where possible. It is at this time of year that the weather is at its most enjoyable with sunny days with temperatures that don’t reach too high. Because the crowds are here in their droves you should expect prices to be high at this time of year and good deals may be hard to come by. If money is not a problem for you however, and you want to be in Phuket, Thailand when the weather is at its very best, the high season is when you should be booking.
